Dementia & Alzheimer’s Care
The Fontbonne Neighborhood provides specialty dementia care for residents who have various dementia, Alzheimer’s or other related conditions. Focused activities and dining programs are provided within a secure environment for maximum support.
In addition to daily nursing support and assistance, including activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing and dining, a focused activities program is provided by a dedicated activities staff member. Activities are designed to stimulate residents so that cognitive abilities can be maintained as much as possible.
The unique programming is designed to nurture and support each resident's potential. Care is flexible to meet the “quality of the moment.” The philosophy of care is based on the Woodside Place Program model of dementia care that was originally developed by Presbyterian SeniorCare as an innovative way of caring for residents.
Additional support is provided by Neighborhood Assistants for residents who require additional assistance with meals, and meals are modified to provide “finger foods” or special diets to meet each resident’s needs. The dining area is adjacent to a tree-line courtyard and includes lovely views of nature and our grounds. During good weather, the courtyard is available for use by residents who are escorted by staff and families.
The neighborhood is secured, with entrance and egress provided by key code only, so that residents who are able can walk the neighborhood hallways freely. Residents are supported to maintain their maximum level of functioning as long as possible and additional supports are provided with changes over time as residents' abilities decrease. We promote aging in place so that each resident can experience continuity of care with familiar staff members who care for them over time. Families are also a priority for our staff as we care for their loved one during this journey.
Residents are welcomed in a spirit of genuine hospitality and “neighborhoods” which emphasize care that is centered on their unique personal needs. Neighborhoods are designed to provide a comfortable, home-like environment in which life is respected, nurtured and celebrated. In addition, each neighborhood is overseen by a Registered Nurse/Neighborhood Manager who coordinates all clinical care and services for residents.
All neighborhoods have views of beautifully landscaped campus grounds for an outdoor ambience. Neighborhoods feature spacious resident rooms, congregate dining in home-like kitchen areas, living rooms, sunrooms and bathing areas. Residents are encouraged to personalize their living area with furnishings and belongings that hold fond memories. Cable TV, internet and private telephone services are available. There are on-site beautician and barber services, and transportation and escort services are provided as needed.
